Learning Graphic Design through Gamification

Game Objective:
This semester you will be entering a game. One where you must pass levels, complete challenges, and collect badges along the way. You will be in charge of the path your take, and everyone's path will be unique to them, driven by your interests and skill level. The more levels you pass, badges you collect, and challenges you complete the higher your end score will be (aka your grade). Each player will have a score board (kept digitally and physically in the room). As you complete challenges and earn badges you will post them on your scoreboard.

The Rules:
  • LEVELING UP: The first part of the game is to start passing levels. You may choose the path you wish to explore, which at the time includes; Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. To pass a level you must complete a certain number of tutorials, or present work to your game master (your teacher) and he/she will determine level equivalence. You are not graded on passing each level.
  • COMPLETING CHALLENGES: At the end of each level are a series of challenges. You may choose the challenge that you want to complete based on your interest. Upon completion the challenges must be published via Wix and will be graded on the quality of your work.
  • COLLECTING BADGES: Badges are extras that you collect along your journey. It increases your overall game score. Some badges are included in certain challenges, and some stand on their own.

The Score Card/Course Requirements:
  • A link to the digital scorecard is here: Publication and Design Gamification Scorecard
  • You are required to complete at least 4 challenges in a semester. There are some MUST DO challenges (although you can choose your timing).
  • A total of 6 badges should be completed (There are some MUST DO badges; included community project)
  • Your individual grade however is NOT only calculated by the number of challenges completed, but more on quality of the project.
